Two From South Bend Charged With Allegedly Stealing Handgun
SYRACUSE — Two South Bend men were recently charged with theft after allegedly stealing a firearm from a vehicle.
Jacob Randall Shreve, 20, 609 Meadow Stream Drive, South Bend; and Chris Jerry Shreve II, 44, 52723 Hastings St., South Bend, are each being charged with theft, a level 6 felony, according to court paperwork.
On June 30, an officer with the Syracuse Police Department responded to a report of theft at Ace Hardware. The officer spoke with a store employee, who said his vehicle was parked at the store’s parking lot.
According to court documents, the employee left his vehicle’s keys at the employee desk when he arrived at work. When the worker got ready to leave, he realized his keys had been taken. He checked his vehicle and found that a black handgun had been stolen.
The officer watched surveillance video from Ace Hardware and saw Chris and Jacob enter the workstation area and pick up the keys. Chris and Jacob were also seen parking next to the employee’s vehicle.
Jacob was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail Aug. 20, with a $6,200 surety and cash bond.
A warrant has been issued for Chris’s arrest.
