Rep. Banks Announces Service Academy Briefing At WCHS
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) announced that he will host a U.S. service academy briefing Sept. 7, at Warsaw Community High School for local students who are interested in attending one of the five U.S. service academies.
“I am honored every year to meet young, patriotic Hoosiers determined to attend one of our nation’s service academies and serve our nation abroad,” said Banks. “Students and their parents and/or guardians in attendance will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the five service academies, the Third District Academy Advisory Board and representatives from my office to learn about each service academy and their respective admissions processes.”
The briefing will be held at Warsaw Community High School at 1 Tiger Lane, Warsaw. Along with Congressman Banks and his staff, representatives from the following service academies will be present:
•United States Military Academy (West Point, N.Y.)
•United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, Md.)
•United States Coast Guard Academy (New London, Conn.)
•United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, N.Y.)
•United States Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Doors will open for registration at 8 a.m., and the event is scheduled to last until 10 a.m.
The value of an appointment to a service academy is equivalent to a $400,000 scholarship. The service academy application deadline for this year class of 2024 (high school class 2020 or later) is Oct. 18. Applications should be sent to the Rep. Jim Banks’ Fort Wayne District office.
