Community Festival Celebrating Diversity To Be Held In Downtown Warsaw Saturday
WARSAW — A community festival called “Celebrating Us” will be held in downtown Warsaw from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.
The goal of the festival is to bring everyone together and provide the opportunity to learn about other cultures and traditions. Food from around the world will be available, including tacos, jalisco, tropical food and Middle Eastern food.
“We look forward in getting to know more of the people in our community and organizations that support inclusion and what they are doing for our community,” said Board Member Lyle Schrock.
Music and entertainment will be provided, with a jazz group, Latin dancers and a local rapper performing. There will be activities for children, including bounce houses and a dunk tank.
The event is being hosted by One Warsaw, described on their Facebook page as a group of individuals who care about welcoming all. Their mission is “To inspire community inclusion through support, education and celebration of all people.”
Lineup for the dunk tank is below:
4:10-4:50 Chris Plack-political candidate
4:55-4:35 Jeffrey Owens-real estate broker
5:40-6:20 Brittany Lyon-community supporter
6:25-7:05 Hoss Smith – Serenity House
7:10-7:50 Travis J. McConnelll-attorney
Board Member Kristen Hale said, “One Warsaw was created to celebrate everyone that lives, works and visits our community. We hope that this first event ‘Celebrating Us,’ will continue to foster an atmosphere of being inclusive and welcoming, in addition to celebrating the uniqueness and diversity of those within our community.”
Shari Benyousky, who helped organize the event, said she is “excited about this event because it isn’t political and has nothing to do with political correctness or the divisions that we struggle with daily.”
“This event shows that our community is getting stronger because it is able to value many perspectives,” Benyousky said. “Come find rich, compelling and surprising opportunities and dialogue with us.”
