Wawasee XC Watches Future Run Past
SYRACUSE – The future of Wawasee cross country was on display Monday as the Elementary Mile races were held for bragging rights between the three Wawasee corporation elementary schools.
Syracuse won the boys team title with 38 points, outrunning North Webster’s 43 and Milford’s 46 points. North Webster bested Syracuse, 27-35, for the girls title, with Milford well back at 74 points.
The top overall boy was a tie between Milford’s Grady Berkeypile and North Webster’s Zane Likens, both coming home at 6:32.62. The two, both fifth graders, hit the line at the exact same time, with another MIlford runner, Mason Worrell, taking third at 6:34.28. The top Syracuse boys runner was Hudson Cripe with a time of 6:43.01.
The top fourth grader was Jack Shoemaker of Syracuse, running a time of 6:46.48, and the top third grader was Deklyn Sizemore of Syracuse with a time of 6:46.57.
Reese Beasley was the only girl to cross the finish line under seven minutes. Beasley, a fifth grader at Syracuse, had a stop of 6:58.91 to win the girls race going away. Emma Pulley was second in at 7:23.80, and classmate Candice Stoffel, both fourth graders at North Webster, was third at 7:25.48.
The fifth grade runner-up was Syracuse’s Addison DeLaGrange at 7:29.48 and the top third grader was Aaliyah Allen of North Webster at 8:10.72.
