Aalbue Leads Grace Weekly Honors
WINONA LAKE – JJ Aalbue enjoyed a week like no other for No. 16 Grace’s women’s soccer team. Her fantastic play in a pair of lopsided wins, along with the tennis work from Max Rozas and golfing of Sydney Abbott earned the three weekly conference and national honors.
AALBUE ON FIRE
Aalbue recorded back-to-back hat tricks to go along with three assists in just two games to lead the Lady Lancers.
As a result, Aalbue was named the NCCAA National Player of the Week as well as the Crossroads League Offensive Player of the Week.
She now ranks in the NAIA’s top 10 in both goals (10 goals, 10th) and assists (9 assists, 2nd). She has scored all 10 of her goals over the past four matches.
The Lady Lancers (8-1) open up Crossroads League play this week with a pair of road matches. Grace is at Huntington on Wednesday and at Goshen on Saturday.
COMING UP ROZAS
The Crossroads League tabbed Max Rozas of Grace’s men’s tennis team as its Player of the Week on Monday.
Rozas claimed the singles’ championship at ITA Midwest Regionals. He did not drop a set to dominate the singles’ bracket, including a 6-3, 6-0 rout of UNOH’s Marcos Salazar in the championship.
Earlier in the week, Rozas nearly led Grace to an upset against No. 22 Indiana Wesleyan. He won at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles in Grace’s narrow 3-4 defeat. Rozas is currently 16-0 in singles’ play this year, including six wins at ITA Regionals.
ABBOTT NO JOKE
Sydney Abbott was given national recognition as the NCCAA National Golfer of the Week for Grace’s women’s golf team.
Abbott earned All-Tournament honors at the Tiara Rado Golf Course last week. She carded a 78-78 to place third. Every other team in the field besides Grace was NCAA Div. II.
Abbott is the third Lady Lancers to be named NCCAA Golfer of the Week already this fall, joining Anna Marshall who won the honor twice.
The Lady Lancers will head to Michigan on Wednesday for the annual Pure Michigan Invitational at Quail Ridge Golf Club.
