Claypool Man Recently Booked For Theft
WARSAW — A Claypool man was booked for theft after allegedly taking money from an ex-girlfriend’s safe.
Gavin Ryan Heckaman, 28, 5678 South CR 200W, Claypool, was charged with one count of theft, a level 6 felony, and an additional count of theft, a class A misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on June 20, an officer from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of theft by Alexandra Nicole Hodges.
Hodges said that Heckaman, her ex-boyfriend and father of her child, stole money from her totaling $2,275. She said Heckaman stole the money from her locked safe while babysitting their child between the dates of June 10-16.
Hodges confronted Heckaman via text message after discovering the missing money. She told Heckaman he owed her the missing $2,275. Heckaman told her she would only get $1,000. He also told Hodges he would sell his truck to pay it back to avoid prosecution.
On Sept. 3, a detective with the Kosciusko Sheriff’s Office interviewed Heckaman. He said Hodges and he were not living together, but he still had a key to her safe.
Heckaman admitted he stole $60 from Hodges’ safe. However, he told police he was highly intoxicated at the time of the theft and did not think he stole $2,275.
Heckaman was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail, Sept. 24, with a bond of $4,500 surety and cash.
