Daughters of American Revolution Essay Contests’ Deadline Is Nov. 25
WARSAW — The deadline for the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contests is Monday, Nov. 25.
All students in grades 5 through 12 in public, parochial, or home schools in Kosciusko County are eligible. The Agnes Pruyn Chapman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is the Kosciusko County sponsor of the DAR American History and Christopher Columbus essay contests.
The 2019-202 American History Essay Contest title for students in grades 5 through 8 is “The Voyage of the Mayflower.” 2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower and the founding of the Plymouth Colony.
The Christopher Columbus Essay Contest is for grades 9 to 12. The 2019-202 title is “A Sailor’s Experiences as Part of Christopher Columbus’ First Expedition to the Americas.” Christopher Columbus’ first expedition set off in August of 1492. He and his men explored the Caribbean after arriving there in October.
Complete essay information, including topic, guidelines and submission is available from teachers in most of the county schools. Students in Tippecanoe Valley Schools can obtain information at the Akron and Bell Memorial Public Libraries. Milford, North Webster, Syracuse and Warsaw Public Libraries also have information. Submitted American history essays from all students in public, parochial and home schools are grouped by grade for judging. One essay from each grade of 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be selected as chapter winner and submitted for competition at the Indiana DAR state level. Winning essays progress through competition levels for selection of a national winner for each grade.
One essay from grades 9 through 12 of the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest will be selected and sent for competition at the state level. The winning essay from that contest also progresses through levels to the national competition.
