Koser Booked Into Jail, Bail Money Reportedly Raised Via Online Fundraiser
ETNA GREEN — Sherry Koser was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail earlier this week on a charge of cruelty to an animal, a class A misdemeanor.
The charge was filed several months after Koser complained about the killing of her 14-year-old boxer, Daisy, by Kosciusko County Animal Control Officer Jerry Clase, who was later suspended from work for five days over the circumstances surrounding the dog’s death.
The 45-year-old was booked Wednesday. Her address was listed as Etna Green.
Clase determined the dog’s condition was bad enough that it needed to be euthanized. He shot the dog and disposed of the body without alerting Koser.
Koser’s bond was set at $450 cash. She has since bonded out, according to the jail.
According to information on Public Vet’s Facebook page, bail money was raised for Koser via an online fundraiser.
Through an online post, Dr. Tess Peavy, veterinarian and executive director of nonprofit Public Veterinary Services, shared information about Koser’s situation and asked for help in raising funds for Koser’s bail.
“If we don’t stand up for each other, then we all lose,” Peavy said in the online post.
Koser said on Sunday that she planned to turn herself in this week, but whether that happened was unclear.
“I’m sorry I have to go to jail for a retaliation charge, but if that’s the only way to try and prove my case and get this charge thrown out, then that’s the sacrifice I will make,” Koser said last week.
