Grace Ready To Take Aim At NCCAAs
WINONA LAKE – Starting Monday, Grace’s men’s and women’s golf teams will aim for the first national golf championships in school history.
Grace’s squads will participate in the 2019 NCCAA National Championships. The three-day, three-round tournament is held at Hammock Beach Resort’s Conservatory Course in Palm Coast, Fla.
The men are returning for the second straight year after placing seventh in 2018. Grace also placed sixth in 2016.
The Lancers have enjoyed a strong fall season leading up to NCCAA Nationals, including a pair of runner-up finishes at the IWU Invitational and the Taylor Invitational under head coach Denny Hepler.
Noah Wright, Payton Kelly, Blake Lawson, Camden Gongwer and Jacob Abrahamson will represent the Lancers at the tournament. Wright has the hot hand, tying for medalist honors at the Battle at the Henge last weekend.
The Lady Lancers are making their second straight trip to NCCAA Nationals in just the fifth year of the program. Grace was sixth a year ago in its first team appearance.
Grace’s two senior leaders — Sydney Abbott and Anna Marshall — will be playing for the third time at NCCAA Nationals. Both players qualified as individuals in previous seasons to the national tournament.
Joining the senior duo will be junior Rachel Harvey and freshmen Lucy Young and Carolyn Pacocha.
The Lady Lancers have an average round score of 314.7 so far this fall, more than 15 strokes better than last year’s team average.
