Young, Soccer Duo Gather Weekly Honors
WINONA LAKE – Grace once again landed on the weekly honors lists, men’s soccer in the Crossroads League and women’s golf in the NCCAA.
Lucy Young was named the NCCAA National Golfer of the Week, fresh off leading the Lady Lancers to a national championship.
Young was Grace’s best golfer last week at the NCCAA National Championships, placing third overall as a freshman in the competitive field. She earned All-American status for her performance.
She finished with a three-round score of 238 (+22) to help the Lady Lancers secure a two-stroke victory for the program’s first national championship. It marked the school’s third championship across all sports.
On the final day of the championship, Young etched her name in program lore with a historic finish. On the 16th hole in the final round, Grace trailed by one stroke. But Young finished up the round birdie-par-bogey, while Anna Parramore (NCCAA medalist) went bogey-bogey-bogey to give the Lady Lancers a two-stroke victory against Erskine.
Marcelo Talamas was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week, while Colton Wottring was the CL Defensive Player of the Week representing Lancer men’s soccer.
Talamas capped off his brilliant regular season with a goal and two assists in a 4-0 win over Marian. He finished the regular season ranked second in the league with 15 goals.
Wottring continued his hot streak with another shutout victory as Grace’s goalkeeper. He made three saves to blank Marian. Wottring has not allowed a goal to score over the past 206:22 for the Lancers.
The Lancers wrapped up the regular season with a 9-5-3 mark and finished sixth in the league standings. Grace will travel to third-seed Bethel on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament.
