ETNA GREEN — More details have been released on Saturday night’s shooting in Etna Green.
Shawn Douglas McCrum, 53, 228 E. State St., Etna Green, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Nov. 3. He is charged with aggravated battery, a level 3 felony; carrying a handgun without a license, a class A misdemeanor; and carrying a handgun as a convicted felon within 15 years, a level 5 felony.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in regards to a shooting. The victim of the shooting, Michael Reynolds, 45, North Webster, was located in Milford. Reynolds had suffered a gunshot wound to his stomach and was taken by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital.
According to court documents, Reynolds said a woman at McCrum’s Etna Green residence had invited him over. While at an adjacent building to the residence, Reynolds said he was drinking alcohol and spending time with several people who lived at the residence, including McCrum. During that time, an argument between Reynolds and McCrum began where McCrum allegedly placed his hands on Reynolds. Reynolds said after McCrum touched him a second time, a physical fight began.
Reynolds told officers that things eventually settled down and McCrum went into the residence. McCrum then returned and shot Reynolds in the stomach. Reynolds said he crawled out to his vehicle and drove away. Reynolds suffered a shattered femur as a result of the gunshot wound.
Officers obtained a search warrant for McCrum’s residence and took him into custody. McCrum admitted to firing a handgun at Reynolds three times, striking him once. McCrum also admitted to being a convicted felon, having previously been convicted of intimidation and domestic battery in LaPorte County.
McCrum is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $200,250 surety and cash bond.
