Aalbue Leads Grace In Crossroads Soccer Awards
WINONA LAKE – Following a memorable regular season, Grace’s women’s soccer team earned six players to the All-Crossroads League Team.
JJ Aalbue highlighted the Lady Lancers’ honors by being named both the Offensive Player of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year.
Additionally, Sacia Hanson, Cassidy Wasson, Hannah Tkacz and Bethany Blackwood were named All-League, and Alexis Larimore was honorable mention for All-League.
Aalbue was electric in her first collegiate season. The freshman led the Crossroads League with 18 assists (No. 4 in the NAIA), and she was third in the league in goals with 14.
Hanson had two goals and five assists as a dynamic winger, and Wasson added seven goals and four assists as a central midfielder. Both players started all 20 matches for Grace.
Larimore battled through injury to start 17 games, scoring six goals and assisting two others.
Blackwood asserted herself again as one of the top goalkeepers in the nation. The sophomore posted eight shutouts and registered a 0.920 goals against average. She was protected well by Tkacz, who played an instrumental role in Grace’s nine team shutouts on the season.
The Lady Lancers are currently ranked No. 19 in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll with a record of 14-4-2. Grace is making its third trip in five years to the NAIA National Championships under head coach Michael Voss.
Grace will play in Kansas this weekend for the NAIA Opening Round. The Lady Lancers will face off with Friends on Friday. With a win, Grace would play No. 22 Benedictine on Saturday.
