Claypool Woman Faces Charges For Alleged Fraud And Theft
WARSAW — A Claypool woman faces charges for alleged fraud and theft.
Ruth Marie Steffen, 612 East CR 900S, Claypool, was arrested on a warrant for fraud, a level 6 felony; theft, a class A misdemeanor; and a level 6 felony sentence enhancement.
On Oct. 3, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office received a report of theft. The reporting individual claimed her debit card and a child restraint seat had been stolen from her. She also reported multiple unauthorized transactions on her debit card at locations including Speedway, Pak-A-Sak, Walmart, Warsaw Express and McClure’s in Silver Lake, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
On Oct. 11, the same person reported a cash withdrawal of $750 with her debit card at an ATM.
On Oct. 23, while reviewing surveillance footage at the Speedway in Pierceton, an officer saw Steffen use a debit card on Oct. 1. The card was later identified to the stolen debit card. The owner of the card said Steffen had access to the debit card and PIN, but the owner did not authorize any Steffen’s purchases.
On Nov. 1, via surveillance footage, officers saw Steffen use the stolen debit card in two transitions at Walmart in Warsaw on Oct. 2.
Steffen was previously convicted of theft in Kosciusko County on Jan. 17, 2018, said the affidavit.
Steffen was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Nov. 30 with a bond of $5,750 surety and cash.
