Basketball news and notes for Friday, Dec. 6.
NorthWood boys basketball guard Brock Flickinger was recently named a recipient of the Bud Brown Classic Outstanding Scholar Athlete Award.
Given to a player who shows exemplary work on and off the basketball court, Flickinger earned the award as NorthWood competed in the Bud Brown Classic basketball showcase last weekend. Flickinger carries a 4.0 GPA and is a three-year letterman for the Panthers.
“Brock excels on and off the floor for NorthWood High School,” said NorthWood boys basketball coach Aaron Wolfe. “He exemplifies the discipline we cherish in our basketball program.”
Wawasee High School athletics announced it is holding a shoot-around ahead of the finalization of the sale of the old Syracuse Elementary School. The old Syracuse school, which was sold at auction in November to Richard Gingerich, will officially change hands from the Wawasee School Corporation to Gingerich on Jan. 1.
Ahead of that process, Wawasee athletics is holding a basketball shoot-around on Saturday, Dec. 28, from 2-4 p.m. The event is free to the public.
Gingerich did not formally announce plans for the building at the public auction in November.
Warsaw will play a pair of basketball games at Grace College as part of the Champions of Character initiative.
Warsaw will take on Fort Wayne Snider this Saturday in girls hoops at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center. The JV and varsity games will serve as the third and fourth games of the day at the MOCC, following Grace’s women’s and men’s contests against Huntington. The college games start with the women against the Foresters at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3 p.m., then the Warsaw-Snider JV at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at approximately 7 p.m.
Grace will host a five-game showcase on Saturday, Dec. 21. The Warsaw boys basketball team will meet Kokomo at approximately 4:30 p.m., the third game of the day. South Bend St. Joe and Leo meet in game one at 1:30 p.m., followed by Chesterton and South Bend Washington. Westview and University follow the Warsaw-Kokomo game, and Fort Wayne Snider and Andrean meet in the final game of the day.
