Three Crowns Coffee Opens On North Detroit, Keeps Downtown Store Open
WARSAW— Three Crowns Coffee is offering some new options at its recently-opened second location in Warsaw.
Three Crowns Coffee & Craft Sodas at 941 N. Detroit St., opened quietly about almost two weeks ago and offers a similar menu as the original store at 114 S. Buffalo St.
The location on North Detroit Street offers pour-over coffee, lattes and more with food options in the future.
Craft sodas are an upcoming new addition for the second location.
Owner Tim Hori said he intends to keep open the North Buffalo Street store. He wants to maintain a presence in downtown Warsaw. The original location will stay open as long as the space remains financially sustainable, he said.
He said the recent opening of Biryani Kitchen, specializing in Indian food, in the same building as the original Three Crowns coffee shop was an incentive to keep the downtown store open.
The new shop is a former gas station owned by Korky Koors and has been heavily renovated.
Hori said he plans to launch made-to-order craft sodas in the next few weeks. The sodas will be from syrup mixed from various fresh fruits. Root beer and other flavored craft sodas may debut in the future, he said.
Customers will be able to control the amount of sugar in their sodas. The sodas will be sweetened with natural sugar. Made to order sodas allow flexibility for those looking for a healthier option versus other sodas, said Hori.
Hori is currently working with a distributor to bring in croissant pastries from New York-based Garamond. He hopes to have a deal worked out in the next few weeks. In the meantime, he will bring in scones and other pastries within the next week.
The new additions may be brought over to the Buffalo Street location in the future, he said.
Hori recommends two drinks for new customers and coffee lovers alike. The first is “Tanzanian.” This drink, offered as a pour-over, is a light roast coffee that contains hints of flavors such as honey, grape and almond. “These are all-natural flavors that you don’t get in a dark roast coffee experience,” he said.
For a latte fix, Hori recommends the “Fireside Companion.” The drink was a best seller around this time last year, Hori said. “Fireside Companion” is made with a house-made orange zest and syrup with chocolate.
Earlier this year, Hori began looking for a second location that would have enough space for an in-house roasting operation. Coffee beans used at Three Crowns Coffee are currently roasted off-site.
Hori said last week he was happy with the initial turnout at the second store during its soft launch. “People haven’t made it part of their morning routine to stop by after we open at 6:30 in the morning.” So far the location stays busy from 9 a.m. until close. He expects that to change as more people become aware of the location.
