Strombeck Reflects On North Webster Council Goals And Achievements
NORTH WEBSTER — The town of North Webster is operating smoothly after a transitional time due to the death of long-time town council President Jon Sroufe last year. Current President Lisa Strombeck reported, “My goals for 2020 is to see a continuation of the sewer project coming in from the east side of Webster Lake. This will be a huge benefit not only to the residents of the east side but the water quality of the lake.
“I would also like to team with the chamber to plan a town spring cleanup-beautification. Details of what I have in mind will follow. Councilmember Dan Thystrup is working hard on plans for a sidewalk-bike trail through North Webster that will eventually continue to Syracuse and also Warsaw.
“We are very proud of our community and want to keep everything running smoothly and make North Webster a great place to live and work. I would love to see more businesses continue to come in.
“Supporting local businesses it what it takes to make them thrive not only in the summer but especially the winter months. The council and Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce works closely with the North Webster Police Department and the North Webster Utilities and Street Department and will continue to do so. I feel we have made great progress with them in the last year with staffing changes and see even more improvements in 2020.
She continued, “The past year went very smoothly as it was a transition year for us with the loss of Jon Sroufe. We were honored for the town to receive $200,000 from the K21 Foundation to be used toward health and wellness to benefit our residents. We have received some great requests for the use of the money and giving more people time to submit their requests before we distribute the funds. We will be finalizing this in January.
“North Webster Town Park made some beautiful changes by pouring concrete for the entry to the Dixie and new lighting along with railing and landscaping under the direction of the park board. The Washington Street access to Webster Lake was revamped for emergency use and a new system was put in place for area pier and lift businesses to place and take out these for lake residents use.
“I have been educated on how the Watershed Foundation works and the importance of healthy lakes. I appreciate the Webster Lake Association attending our meetings and keeping us informed of changes they have made as well.
“I feel it is important to stay in the loop with other organizations pertaining to North Webster including the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township EMS and Fire Department.”
Members of the council are Strombeck, Thystrup and David Waliczek. Alice “Betsy” Luce is the clerk-treasurer. Greg Church is police chief and Infromar Utilities Manager is Jayne Alger.
