WAWASEE BOYS 94.5, GOSHEN 88.5
Two balanced teams exhibited its strengths in the conference finale at the Goshen Middle School pool.
Goshen led the meet 86.5-82.5 heading into the final 400 free relay, and rather than loading up on it’s A relay, Wawasee split the swimmers and was able to take both the first and second places. The A lane, made up of Zeke Keim, Bryce Knepp, Camden Powell and Daegan Kingery, posted a 3:38.86 while Nate Kryder, Keagan Hurst, Blake Roose and Karlson Hand came home at 3:40.51, besting Goshen by 1.2 seconds for the 10-point swing and the win.
“Going into the last relay we were down four points. We split the relay to finish first and second to win the meet,” noted Wawasee boys head coach Jason Scott. “So proud of our guys to be able to pull together in the end for the win.”
Kingery helped the cause with wins in the speed frees, winning the 50 (22.68) and 100 (49.85). Kryder hung a 56.77 winner in the fly, and Keim won the 500 free (5:32.45). The Warrior 200 free relay won at 1:33.77 and Devon Kuhn led the divers at 149.05.
Dylan Steury led the RedHawks with wins in the 200 free (1:53.54) and breaststroke (1:04.76). Gabe Goertz paced the backstroke (1:00.11) and Nick Zehr won the IM (2:06.36). Goshen opened with a 1:46.12 in the medley relay.
Wawasee, now with three weeks off, posted 15 season bests in the meet.
