Pierceton Man Receives Sentence In Attempted Kidnapping Case
WARSAW — A Pierceton man was sentenced to one year in jail on Wednesday, Jan. 15, after attempting to kidnap two minors.
Jason J. Nelson, Jr., 20, 3104 E. Wooster Road Lot 69, Pierceton, was charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and kidnapping, a level 6 felony.
On June 4, 2019, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputy went to an undisclosed residence regarding a knife being displayed. According to court documents, two people under the age of 18 said they were at a vacant lot in a mobile home park when Nelson approached them.
Nelson brandished a knife and told the people they were coming with him. One of them said Nelson said he would kill them if they did not listen to him. The two people followed Nelson out of the mobile home park out of fear that he would hurt them if they did not go with him. Nelson’s mother then arrived at the scene and distracted him.
For the intimidation charge, Kosciusko County Superior Court 3 Judge Joe Sutton sentenced Nelson to a one-year sentence in the Kosciusko County Jail, with two years suspended on formal probation. For the kidnapping charge, Nelson received a one-year suspended sentence. Both charges will be served concurrently. Sutton also said he had no objection to Nelson serving the sentence through work release or community corrections.
