Owners Choose To Demolish Vacant Home On Center Street
WARSAW – The owners of a vacant home on Center Street in Warsaw have decided to demolish the structure.
Terry and Connie Holzheuer, of Huntington, told city officials at a code enforcement hearing Tuesday, Jan. 28, that equipment is already arriving and that the old, two-story house at 1410 E. Center St., will be removed this week.
The house has been vacant for years and has been on the code enforcement’s radar since 2014 over a variety of violations that include problems with the roof and foundation.
The couple said they will soon try to sell the future vacant lot.
The property has had a history of environmental nuisances, including tall grass, over the years and the couple was warned that they need to maintain the property after the house is demolished.
Three other cases were heard at Tuesday’s hearing:
- A representative of Little Crow lofts, Julie McCartney, told officials that problems with debris crumbling from ceilings in some of the apartments has been fixed. She said work on the roof is being addressed. The city and property managers are also working to resolve a vacant car problem in the apartment’s parking lot. Seven cars were tagged and five have been moved. City officials reminded McCartney that she can have the vehicles towed.
- Bobbie Wade told the hearing officer they are moving toward selling the house at 1015 E. Main St. The city issued a demolition order late last year. The hearing officer encouraged Wade to move as quickly as possible in whatever she needs to do to sell the house. The issue will be revisited at the next hearing set for March 10.
- A representative of Economy Inn, on US 30, told code enforcement officials that they are waiting to determine a figure on the amount of damage to the interior from a spring storm. After that, the owners will begin addressing interior repairs.
