LCA Can’t Find Magic In Tourney Loss
DENVER – A red-hot start from Southwood put a lid on the Lakeland Christian season Friday night.
The Knights raced out to a 19-4 lead after a quarter, then led by 24, 35-11, at the half in a 63-34 runaway in the semi-finals in the Class 1-A No. 53 tourney at North Miami.
LCA (10-14) committed twice as many turnovers (14) as it had assists (7) as it dropped its only game of the tournament.
Tori Calizo closed out her successful career at LCA with 10 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Gross had seven points and four boards, Jessi Calizo had eight points, five boards and three assists, and Natalie Norris added four points, five boards, three assists and three steals.
Southwood had Sydney Helfin lead the way with 12 points and Sierra Stout chipped in 10 points.
The Knights (7-16) will meet old pals Northfield (18-6) in the championship game, the Norse with a 63-51 win over North Miami (17-6) in the second semi-final.
In a local note for LCA, its eighth grade program beat Elkhart Christian 26-17 Friday evening. Addisyn Daley led the team in scoring with 10 points followed by Kelsey Cox with six points.
