Seven Local Lanes Picked Up For Swim State
INDIANAPOLIS – Seven lanes from the Elkhart Girls Swim Sectional were picked up for the IHSAA State FInals.
In a sectional that already had nine swimmers make state cut times on top of the champions, the sectional field will send seven others to round out the state field for this weekend’s two-day finals.
Among those picked up was the Wawasee 400 free relay, whose time of 3:37.39 lands it 20th in the state after the weekend series. The Warriors also qualified its 200 medley relay as a state cut time, clocking 1:47.80 to set the school record on Saturday. Warrior freshman Alexis Mishler was also picked up in the 100 freestyle, her 52.63 seeding her 22nd. Mishler also hit the state cut in the backstroke, which has her 17th heading into the weekend.
Among the pick-ups from the Elkhart sectional were four from Northridge – Americis Ingling in the 50 free (22, 24.20), Ingrid Fretz of in the 100 free (24, 52.85), Kenzie Weber in the backstroke (27, 58.34) and Anna Yeater in the breaststroke (23, 1:06.47); and one from Concord – Sophia Stutsman in the butterfly (16, 57.28).
Northridge has three top-five seeds for the state prelims, Elsa Fretz fifth in both the 50 free and butterfly, and the 200 free relay also seeded fifth. Ridge’s 400 free relay is seventh, the medley relay 11th, Sydney Nethercutt eighth in the 500 and 11th in the 200, and Jenna Nethercutt seventh in the breaststroke.
Concord has Ella Lantz fifth in the backstroke and 18th in the 200 free, Grace Brenneman eighth in the 100 and 13th in the 50 free, Kiran Stauffer in the top 20 of the 200 and 500 freestyles, Audrey Lantz 20th in the individual medley, and all three relays within the top 15.
Warsaw has one entry at the IHSAA State Finals to be held at the IUPUI Natatorium, its medley relay listed 31st with a time of 1:55.62.
Culver Academy’s Autumn Baumgartner is 12th in the 50 and 15th in the 100 freestyles, and both the 200 and 400 relay teams are seeded 28th.
Manchester’s Halle Briner is 29th in the 200 free and 31st in the breaststroke, and Josie Briner is 29th in both the IM and butterfly. Rochester’s Makenna Beall is 31st in the 500 free and Columbia City’s Lauren Liston is 32nd in the backstroke.
Diving will fill in its state qualifiers after Tuesday’s regional rounds, the local regional for the Elkhart and Warsaw qualifiers to take place at Penn.
