Vikings, Redskins Fit To Be Tied
AKRON – In the final regular season tune-up for Tippecanoe Valley before the state tournament kicks in, the Vikings and Knox managed a 77-77 tie Monday evening.
Karl Parker had a big night for the Vikings, winning the 50 free in exciting fashion with a 24.02, just three-hundredths faster than Knox’s Jordan Maynard. Parker also claimed the 500 free at 5:55.17 and helped both the 200 and 400 free relays to wins, the 200 at 1:59.03 in a one-second win over Knox and the 400 at 3:55.71, about 12 seconds better to earn the eight points for the draw.
Mitch Smith had an exciting win in the 100 free, going 1:06.48 to best Colin Bottorff by one-hundredth. Maynard also had a touch win, beating Mason Stephen to the wall in the fly at 1:03.34, three-tenths faster.
Stephen would win the 200 free at 2:09.94 and Brandon Hoffman won the breaststroke at 1:13.18.
Noah Singleton had two solo wins for Knox with a 2:18.06 in the individual medley and 1:01.60 in the backstroke. Devan Himes won diving with a 222.65 and the Knox medley relay came home first at 1:58.07, 1.2 seconds better than Valley.
Tippecanoe Valley will work again Feb. 20 at the Warsaw Boys Swim Sectional preliminaries.
