WARSAW – A Warsaw man is facing six charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly stabbed his wife repeatedly in the face, head and chest.

Juan Ramirez Garcia, 50, 340 E. Levi Lee Road Lot 139, Warsaw, was arrested following an incident at 8:11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.

When Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and asked who the suspect was, a group of people pointed to Juan Garcia, who had blood running down the front of his clothing, court paperwork said.

The victim, Martha Ramirez, was covered in blood and suffering from a stab wound to the chest and several stab wounds to her face and head.

Martha Ramirez was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

A daughter of the couple – one of four others home at the time – told police she woke up to the sound of a fight. When she went to see what was going on, she saw blood on her mother. She was able to take the knife away from her father and separated the two from each other.

But at that point, Juan Garcia grabbed both women by the hair and dragged them outside of the residence to the front yard.

According to the daughter, Juan Garcia then cut his own throat with a second knife.

Police said the chest wound Martha Ramirez received was deep enough to be life-threatening.

Juan Garcia has been preliminarily charged with attempted murder, a level 1 felony; aggravated battery, a level 3 felony; domestic battery causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony; battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; domestic battery with a child under the age of 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery causing moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony.

Responding agencies include Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Lutheran EMS, Lutheran Air Ambulance and the Plain Township Fire Department.

He is being held with a $500,250 surety and cash bond at the Kosciusko County Jail.

Juan Garcia has been previously convicted of intimidation and battery on a public safety official.
