NorthWood Duo Doubles Up; Miller, Patton Included On State Honors
INDIANAPOLIS – State is still a couple days away, but the awards are already starting to roll in for a NorthWood duo.
Maddy Payne and Kate Rulli were both named to the Academic All-State Honorable Mention list while Payne was named Second Team All-State and Rulli Third Team All-State by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.
Payne and Rulli are preparing for NorthWood’s first state tile game in 21 years this weekend in the Class 3-A State Championship against Salem.
The Academic All-State list had another two from the area make the grade, with Triton’s Whytnie Miller earning Academic All-State and Warsaw’s Kaylee Patton earning Honorable Mention Academic All-State.
Other area players to make Academic All-State were Goshen’s Hannah LaFary and Elizabeth Kirkton and Plymouth’s Mary Catherine Plynn and Alaina Clady. Honorable Mentions went to the Columbia City quartet of Brayden Lickey, Grace Schrader, Olivia Shearer and Carly Mabie, St. Joe’s Keegan Sullivan and Ann Goralczyk and Wabash’s Maya Benysh.
Earning ICGSA First Team All-State were Sullivan, North Judson’s Lillian Frasure and Pioneer’s Hailey Cripe and Ashlynn Brooke. Joining Payne on the Second Team include Oregon-Davis’ Mercedes Rhodes, Pioneer’s Olivia Brooke, Elkhart Central’s Yiesha Williams and the Penn duo of Trinity Clinton and Reganne Pate. Third Team with Rulli included Oregon-Davis’ Katy Sauer and Jayden Worthington along with Goshen’s Brynn Shoup-Hill.
