Mangas, Moore Lead Crossroads League Hoops Awards
AVON, Ohio – There is a lot of local flair among the announcement from the Crossroads League for its men’s basketball award winners.
Kyle Mangas once again is the league Player of the Year. The junior just guided the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats to a third straight Crossroads League tournament championship, and Mangas in return has garnered his third straight Player of the year award. This season Mangas averaged 27 points in Crossroads League play, while shooting 56 percent from the field. The junior is averaging 26 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season which are all career highs.
IWU center Seth Maxwell was also named the Crossroads League Defensive Player of the Year, and both were named First Team All-League.
Grace College saw a resurgence under first-year head coach Scott Moore, and justly Moore was named the league’s Coach of the Year. Moore has led the Lancers to the 2020 NAIA National Championships for the first time since 2015. Grace posted a 19-12 record, placing third in the league standings.
Moore is the fifth coach in Grace’s program history. He has already won more games (19) than any of Grace’s previous coaches during their rookie seasons. He is also the first to take a team to a national tournament in his first year.
Moore also has the unique distinction of being a two-sport Coach of the Year in the league. Moore was named the top coach in the conference for women’s tennis in 2016 when he served as the head coach for the Lady Lancers.
Wrapping up top honors is Christian Harvey of Marian, who was tabbed as the league’s Freshman of the Year.
Grace added Haden Deaton to the First Team, Charlie Warner and Jaret Sons to the Second Team, and Myles Johnson to the All-Freshman Team.
