‘Bomy’s Authentic Indian Food’ Set To Open In Former B&K
WARSAW — A new restaurant specializing in fast food-style Indian cuisine is slated to open in the former B&K hotdog stand location on Winona Avenue.
“Bomy’s Authentic Indian Food” is owned and operated by Bomy Singh. He also owns and sells Indian food at the Kwik Mart in Columbia City. For a short time last year, he sold his offerings at the Phillips 66 on Center Street in Warsaw.
He decided to open a restaurant in town after getting positive feedback from area residents.
Singh projects the restaurant will open sometime later this month or in April. The tentative hours will be 10 a.m – 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to Singh.
The restaurant will offer carry-out with an option to dine in. Singh intends to “serve everyone within five minutes.” He sees the approach as an advantage for customers who are looking for a quick bite on their lunch breaks.
“Usually, you go to Indian restaurants and you have to wait 30 minutes or more,” he said.
Once open, Singh’s establishment will be the second Indian restaurant in Warsaw. Sivakumar Kannappan opened Biryani Kitchen late last year in the old Oak and Alley space in downtown Warsaw.
Singh doesn’t see the two restaurants as competition.
“We have two completely different approaches,” he said.
Most of the cooking will be done in Singh’s kitchen space in Columbia City. The food will be brought to both of Singh’s locations in Columbia City and Warsaw.
Singh’s menu will consist of a variety of vegan choices, along with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Separate menus with the different options will be displayed on screens in the restaurant, according to Singh.
A comprehensive remodel of the building’s interior is underway. “Almost everything will be new,” said Singh. He plans to replace the ceiling tiles and light fixtures. He also plans to gut the kitchen. The tables in the dining area and some flooring are the few holdovers from the location’s former existence.
The drive-in area will exist only as parking space. Car service will not be provided.
Eventually, Singh plans to open more locations in other cities. He said he is working on a food truck for events. He asks that fans follow his Facebook page to stay updated.
