Pair Of Golf Tourneys Meet Different Fates
SOUTH BEND – A pair of major golf tournaments coming to the area had different directions attached to their fates.
The 2020 Four Winds Invite at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend was moved from its mid-June dates to a late-July, early-August reschedule. Originally scheduled from June 12-14, the tournament is now optimistically scheduled for July 31 through August 2.
“‘The Road to the LPGA’ does not exist without the tournament partners who host our events throughout the
country,” said Mike Nichols, Chief Business Officer of the Symetra Tour. “For the past eight years, we’ve valued
the friendship and support of the Pokagon Band and the Four Winds Casinos, and are extremely grateful for
their flexibility and ongoing support during these uncertain times, because without them, our athletes would not
have a place to play.”
On the other hand, Harbor Shores Golf Club in Benton Harbor announced Thursday morning it will not be hosting the Senior PGA Championship.
The PGA of America said it based its decision on Michigan’s stay-at-home order that was enacted March 23. The event was to be played May 21-24. It will be held next year at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
It will return to Benton Harbor the following year. The course has hosted PGA events in recent years and stated via its Twitter page it is anticipating hosting the Senior PGA Championship again in 2021.
