WARSAW – As has been done in recent years for those who have passed in the athletic circles, schools are again showing support for one of its own.

Indianapolis North Central athletic director Paul Loggan passed away over the weekend due to complications from COVID-19. His fight was well documented on social media from around the state and country.

Loggan passed away Sunday afternoon after battling the virus, which had hospitalized him on April 1. His son, Michael, posted on social media, “He gave us everything he had, and that’s all we can ask for. My dad passed away today at 1:32 p.m. Dad know you have a whole team down here that loves you and please look after all of us.”

Loggan had been with North Central High School since 1988 and served as the athletic director since 2014. North Central is part of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference serving greater Indianapolis, home of some of the largest schools in the state.

Loggan’s news ran parallel to that of West Noble athletic director Tom Schermerhorn, who also has been hospitalized with COVID-19. Schermerhorn’s prognosis, however, has turned for the better after the weekend where he was taken off a ventilator and hopes to be home in the days to come. Schermerhorn was shown in a photo Sunday giving a thumb’s up with his trademark smile. The West Noble AD has been in the hospital for over a week fighting the virus.

In a show of solidarity from around Indiana, schools this evening will be turning on their football stadium lights in support of Loggan and the North Central family. Several schools in the area, including Warsaw, Wawasee and Tippecanoe Valley, have all reported they will be joining the support.
