Stuck At Home? Fitness Studio Offers Free Online Classes
WARSAW — A local fitness studio is offering free online classes while Gov. Eric Holcomb’s stay-at-home order is in place.
Giverny Fitness Studio, at 207 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, currently has nine trainers who are instructing a wide variety of classes such as yoga, body sculpt, low impact Zumba and Ki-Hara resistance stretching. The free class offerings started when Indiana’s stay-at-home order became effective on March 23.
“It’s been sad not to see people in-person,” said Kelly Britton, owner of Giverny Fitness Studio. “But the transition to online classes, it’s been good. Getting to see these people online is like seeing a friend.”
People from different states and even countries have taken online classes with the studio during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program has brought in participants from Florida, Texas, Oregon, Arizona and Italy.
“We have people from outside of Indiana who used to live here or work in this area who are tuning in,” said Britton.
Classes are being offered through Zoom, an online program used for video conferencing. Participants can download Zoom to their computer or as an app on their cellphone. From there, people can use a link posted on Giverny Fitness Studio’s Facebook page to join classes. The classes are being offered Mondays through Saturdays, with start times as early as 6:15 a.m. and as late as 7:30 p.m. The online schedule of classes for each week can also be found on the fitness studio’s Facebook page.
Through the month of April, fitness classes will be free to the public; Giverny staff will evaluate in late April if there is a need to continue the offer depending on how the virus pandemic progresses.
“This has shown us a whole other avenue for how we can offer our classes,” said Britton. “This is rather new to us, but it’s great to help people have something in their day to do or look forward to.”
Those who are interested in participating but have questions are encouraged to reach out to the fitness studio’s Facebook page in order to receive the quickest response. Those without Facebook can reach out at (574) 527-5227.
