Man Accused Of Battering Juvenile Faces Charges

LEESBURG — A man is facing four charges after allegedly battering a juvenile.
Leon Allen Oswalt, with addresses listed on court documents as both 3572 E. Forest Glen Ave., Leesburg, and another in Marion, is charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony; strangulation, a level 6 felony; domestic battery with a child under the age of 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on March 11, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s detective was contacted by the Department of Child Services about a physical abuse case.
A juvenile was interviewed by a DCS case manager at a hospital in Muncie. The victim said they had gotten into a verbal altercation that turned physical.
The youth said Oswalt came close to his face so the victim pushed him away in an attempt to leave. According to the youth, Oswalt then pushed the youth to the floor and then into a sink.
The youth described going into the living room and repeatedly being pushed and punched again by Oswalt.
Oswalt also allegedly choked and pulled the minor’s hair.
At the time of the examination, marks were observed on the youth. The marks were consistent with the youth’s account of the altercation.
Oswalt spoke with police and said he did have a physical altercation with the juvenile. According to the affidavit, Oswalt admitted to some of the allegations and said “arms were flying.”
Oswalt also said there were other children in the residence at the time.
Oswalt was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail April 24 on a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
