WARSAW — A man is facing charges in two separate cases after threatening a woman, local judge and attorney.
Scotty Lee Van Hawk, 48, with addresses on file as both 65200 M62, Cassopolis, Mich.; and 1087 E. CR 350N, Warsaw, is charged with intimidation and invasion of privacy, both class A misdemeanors, in the first case. Court documents for that case were filed March 17.
In the second case, filed April 13, Van Hawk is charged with invasion of privacy, a class A misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on March 5, police investigated a possible violation of a protective order.
Officers spoke with a woman who has a protective order against Van Hawk. The woman said she got a membership at the YMCA in Warsaw and did not tell Van Hawk about the membership. The woman said she was at the YMCA with her children when she noticed Van Hawk at the front area of the gym.
The woman said one of the children was able to get Van Hawk to leave. The woman also told police that in the past she has had to be nice to Van Hawk in order to get him to stop bothering her. She said this has led her to violate the protective order. She told police that Van Hawk has informed her that if she were to report him for breaking the order, he would report her for breaking the order as well.
Police viewed surveillance footage at the YMCA and saw a man matching Van Hawk’s appearance enter the building and try to access the pool without signing in. He was stopped by an employee and signed him in as a guest.
The woman reported receiving threatening text messages throughout the day on March 5. The text messages were threatening to the woman and one contained a threat directed at a local judge and a local attorney. Both men were advised of the threat.
One message read, “But I don’t need the cops or court or anyone in my life. I’ll fix it for you soon, Sweety, don’t worry.”
The next text message read, “Your lawyer and judge are getting theirs this week you know.”
The protective order was served to Van Hawk on Jan. 7 and is in effect through Dec. 27, 2021.
