In his run for state representative of the 22nd District, Bill Dixon has two primary beliefs that drive him: Listen more than you talk and deliver more than you promise.
Dixon believes the state representative incumbent, Curt Nisly, has spent the last five years embarrassing and angering other Republicans in the General Assembly to the point that he has been isolated and ostracized. Dixon believes this has negatively impacted the district when it comes to the U.S. 30 project, rural broadband initiatives and the state’s response to important businesses such as Amish Acres, Nappanee, and Midwest Poultry’s headquarters, Mentone, closing.
Dixon and Nisly recently received grades from the NRA-PVF, a non-partisan organization which issues grades and endorsements based on the candidate’s Second Amendment views. Dixon received an AQ grade while Nisly received a B- grade. A grade of AQ shows a pro-gun candidate based on the candidate’s responses to the NRA-PVF questionnaire and who does not have a voting record on Second Amendment issues. A B- grade indicates that the candidate is generally pro-gun but may have opposed some pro-gun reform or supported restrictive legislation in the past.
If Dixon is elected, he makes three promises.
1. Work for the district. He will do everything possible to preserve the district’s representation and turn around the damage he believes has been done by the incumbent.
2. Get what the district needs. Dixon will not only focus on hot issues, such as guns and abortion, but also important community issues. These include the U.S. 30 project, the dam in Syracuse, rural broadband to provide students internet services and finding jobs to replace those that have left the area, to name a few.
3. Empowerment, not entitlement. It is Dixon’s belief that empowerment leads to independence while entitlement leads to dependence. Every dollar in every program should focus on making people stronger, smarter, and better.
