CROMWELL — Fire departments from Turkey Creek, Tippecanoe, Sparta (Cromwell), Perry (Ligonier) and Van Buren (Milford) townships responded to a garage fire at 9907 E.1000N, Cromwell, around 11:45 a.m. today, Monday, June 8.
Initial reports were there was a house fully engulfed in flames and several explosions. However an eyewitness to the fire stated she did not hear any explosions and the fire consumed a detached garage, car shed, utility shed and lean-to, totaling 1,568 square feet. The nearby home sustained radiant heat damage to the exterior siding.
The garage, listed as being of a pole barn type construction, was a total loss as were the car shed, utility shed and lean-to. One of two vehicles near the structures was still burning and was left to burn due to the chemical makeup of that vehicle. The second vehicle, which appeared to be a Ford Explorer, did not catch fire, but may have sustained fire damage from the heat.
No one was home at the time of the fire. The property is owned by Richard and Donna Workman.
