Clarification: Banks Supports Black Lives Matter, But Not The Movement
Staff Report
WARSAW – InkFreeNews is clarifying a headline that appeared in a story last week concerning Congressman Jim Banks and his support of Black Lives Matter. The headline read: “Congressman Banks Endorses Black Lives Matter Movement.”
In a June 3 tweet (seen above), Banks said he met with African-American pastors and ended the message by saying “as a white Republican: #BlackLivesMatter.”
Mitchell Hailstone, a spokesperson for the Third District lawmaker, said “Congressman Banks strongly opposes the Black Lives Matter movement that seeks to – a quote from their website – ‘disrupt the western prescribed nuclear family structure’ and other far-left progressive goals.”
“Congressman Banks regrets George Floyd’s death as he’s previously stated on social media and that George Floyd should be alive today. When he said Black Lives Matter, he affirmed George Floyd’s human dignity as well as all other black Americans,” Hailstone said.
InkFreeNews appreciates the distinction.
