NAPPANEE — A Nappanee man was recently arrested after battering a woman.
Marvin M. Brown, 27, 218 Stonewall Court, Nappanee, is charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, domestic battery with a child under 16 present, and domestic battery with a prior conviction, all level 6 felonies; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On June 1, Nappanee Police officers went to an undisclosed location regarding a domestic battery. A woman at the scene said Brown had been drinking and was very intoxicated. According to court documents, a verbal argument began between Brown and the woman when Brown became violent and hit her in the face. When the woman attempted to leave the residence, Brown grabbed her by the hair and kept her at the residence.
The woman then picked up a child to protect them. A second child was also at the residence and could have possibly heard or seen the battery occur. Brown then allegedly struck the woman multiple times with a folding chair while she was holding the child. He also used an electrical cord to hit the woman in the back of the leg multiple times. The woman was then able to leave the residence and yell for help. A man who lived nearby heard the woman yelling and witnessed the physical altercation.
The man was eventually able to separate Brown and the woman and kept them separated until police arrived.
Officers saw the woman had multiple injuries, including a hand-print shaped mark on her face, multiple welts on her leg and a bump on her head.
Brown was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on June 18, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
