Purdue University Fort Wayne Will Resume In-Person Classes
News Release
FORT WAYNE – Purdue University Fort Wayne has updated its plans to resume in-person instruction in the fall.
In an update to the campus community, Chancellor Ronald Elsenbaumer said the decision was based on two months of assessment and input from across the campus community.
The university says it is not planning any changes to the fall academic calendar, and classes are scheduled to begin on August 24.
The remainder of the fall semester will proceed as scheduled and decisions regarding the spring semester will be made at a later date.
“Please be assured that the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority and continues to guide our decision-making as we plan intensively for the fall semester. We are guided by best practices and recommended protocols from the CDC and other public health officials,” said Elsenbaumer. “We reached our decision based on extensive discussions, research, and the examination of best practices being implemented within the Purdue University system, as well as at other institutions around the country.”
PFW says it is not planning any major changes to class schedules, but it will utilize hybrid modalities, which includes a mix of in-person and online classes, and larger rooms for some classes and sections. Additional fall semester plans include accommodations for vulnerable populations, faculty, and staff remote work arrangements, as well as required use of face masks, among others.
The university says it has also been implementing enhanced cleaning and sanitization protocols. All campus buildings will be open starting August 3.
