SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s preseason kick-off, the Warrior Open, was held Monday at Maxwelton Golf Club. The annual athletic fundraiser, this year played at the home of the Wawasee girls golf program, saw two dozen teams take on the course in support of the Warriors.
Taking top honors as the team of the tournament was the team of Beasley brothers – Vince, Scott and Clint – as well as Brent Doty, which led the 24 teams on the course with a round of 15-under.
Winning the putting contest was Andy Cripe, and Lisa Kipfer won both the longest putt during play on the 18th as well as the ladies’ longest drive on the 14th. Mitchell Evans hit a drive of over 320 yards on the 12th to take honors for men’s long drive and Vince Beasley put his second shot on nine within a few feet of the cup to take honors for second shot closest to the pin.
The Warrior Open also held a host of course contests and raffles to help generate funds, which are poured back into the 22 athletic programs at the high school.
