GOSHEN – A close finish saw a trio of very familiar opponents fight it out for honors at Friday’s tour stop in the Howard Bailey Junior Golf Tour.
In the girls 16-19 division, four golfers who have been battling one another all summer continued to see each other at the top of the leaderboards. LaGrange’s Madison Keil won the matchup at Black Squirrel on Friday, posting a 77 to fend off the NorthWood duo of Kirsten Schrock and Breanna Goss, both finishing at 78. Wawasee’s Belle Brunner was right behind with a 79.
The girls 13-15 division wasn’t as frontloaded, with Claire Swathwood of Carmel winning with an 82, four strokes ahead of the field. Claypool’s Madelyn Weaver was seventh in the group with a 97.
The boys 16-19 division was also competitive at the top. Goshen’s Parker Everingham won the group with a 75 and just eight strokes separating the next 11 spots. Among those in the muddle were Warsaw Ben Brander (fourth, 79) and South Whitley’s Tyler Barnhart (tied sixth, 81). Warsaw’s Lewis Turley was 15th with a 91.
In the boys 13-15 division, Aiden Hibbard of Elkhart led the way with a 75. Nappanee’s Earl Williams was tied for eighth at 86 and Winona Lake’s Jaxson Gould was right behind at 87, which saw a three-way tie with Syracuse’s Cam Heinisch and Highland’s David Castellanos.
