Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 5:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, East Armstrong Road, west of North CR 75E, Leesburg. Driver: Yolanda K. Clow, 31, East Brookfield Circle South, Warsaw. Clow was traveling west on East Armstrong Road when her vehicle left the roadway, striking a large rock. Damage up to $10,000.
- 11:05 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, North CR 150E, near East CR 1300N, Milford. Driver: John J. Sutherlin, 29, Loher Lane, Warsaw. Sutherlin was traveling west on CR 1350N when his vehicle left the roadway, striking a Nipsco utility pole. No injuries were reported in the accident. Damage up to $50,000.
- 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, East Old Road 30, west of North CR 650E, Warsaw. Driver: Kathryn A. Cahill, 67, West CR 550N 92, Pierceton. Cahill was traveling west on Old Road 30 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $2,500.
- 5:09 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, East CR 400S, east of South CR 300E, Warsaw. Driver: Jackie D. Hurt, 45, East CR 850S, Claypool. Hurt was traveling east on East CR 400S when her vehicle left the roadway, striking a fence. Hurt complained of head pain and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital. Damage up to $2,500.
- 6:02 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, West CR 1300S, east of South Peru Road, Silver Lake. Driver: Bryce A. Behny, 30, West CR 1300S, Silver Lake. Behny was traveling west on CR 1300S when a deer entered the roadway. Behny’s vehicle then left the roadway, striking a tree. Behny complained of head pain due to the accident. Damage up to $5,000.
- 7:49 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, North CR 300E, north of East Rookstool Road, Syracuse. Driver: Kathryn A. Young, 42, EMS D25A Lane, Syracuse. Young was traveling north on North CR 300E when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $25,000.
- 6:43 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, South SR 19, south of West CR 100S, Mentone. Driver: Jose A. Hernandez, 45, SR 19, Etna Green. Hernandez was traveling north on SR 19 when his vehicle left the roadway. Damage up to $5,000.
- 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 1692 E. CR 200N, Warsaw. Driver: Scott A. McCune, 58, East South Barbee Drive, Pierceton. McCune was backing his vehicle when he struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
North Webster
Officers with the North Webster Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 11:41 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, Syracuse Webster Road, south of East CR 850N, North Webster. Driver: Dane M. Morris, 19, Doll Place, Cromwell. A deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $2,500.
- 10:46 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, Epworth Forest, east of North SR 13, North Webster. Driver: Zachary A. Naish, 28, EMS D2 Lane, Syracuse. Naish’s vehicle went off the roadway, causing damage to a road construction sign and to a yard. Damage up to $5,000.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 2:24 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, South Huntington Street, north of West Railroad Avenue, Syracuse. Drivers: Marvin G. Kauffman, 78, CR 43, Millersburg; and Ryan E. Borders, 25, West CR 200S, Jamestown. Kauffman was waiting on a train when his vehicle rolled forward, rear-ending Borders’ vehicle. Damage under $750.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 9:35 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2473 Jalynn St., Warsaw. Driver: Jermaine F. Hawkins, 36, Leo Drive, Indianapolis. Hawkins was traveling east in a parking lot when his vehicle struck a clearance post. Damage up to $2,500.
- 6:56 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, Wexford Place, near Inverness Point, Warsaw. Driver: Alice F. Ritchie, 50, Old Colony Road, Warsaw. Ritchie was traveling west on Old Colony Road when she hit a bicyclist. The bicyclist, identified as Riley Reffitt, 5, Warsaw, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital by a relative for injuries to her face, upper legs and lower legs. Damage up to $1,000.
- 5:04 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, US 30, near East Center Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Shannon D. Bernardon, 31, Turtle Run, Churubusco; and Christopher M. Hatten, 35, West Harrison Street, Mentone. Bernardon was traveling east on US 30 when he rear-ended Hatten’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
- 5:03 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 108 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw. Driver: Angela L. Shepherd, 54, East Levi Lee Road 166, Warsaw. Shepherd was backing her vehicle from an ATM line when her vehicle drove over a large concrete curb. Damage up to $2,500.
- 1:54 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, East Winona Avenue, west of North Detroit Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Kaitlyn R. Ulrey, 18, Ranch Road, Warsaw; and Amanda Castillo, 69, East Fort Wayne Street, Warsaw. Ulrey was traveling west on East Winona Avenue when she rear-ended Castillo’s vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
Winona Lake
Officers with the Winona Lake Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 4:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 102 Pope Street, near 15th Street, Winona Lake. Driver: Terry G. Farling, 58, East Deerwood Court, Warsaw. Farling realized she was going the wrong way on 15th Street when she struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
- 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, Chestnut Street, near 15th Street, Winona Lake. Driver: unknown. A vehicle registered to James D. Folsom, Winona Lake, was parked when it was sideswiped by an unknown vehicle. The driver of the unknown vehicle fled the scene. No injuries were reported in the accident. Damage up to $10,000.
- 1:52 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 1590 Park Ave., Winona Lake. Driver: Julia R. Nicholas, 21, Winding Way Drive, Fort Wayne. Nicholas was backing her vehicle when she struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle. Damage up to $1,000.
Elkhart County
Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accident:
- 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, CR 38 and SR 119, Goshen. Drivers: Amie Krchmar, 41, New Paris; and Duane Huston, 54, Goshen. Krchmar was eastbound on CR 38 behind Huston’s vehicle. Huston’s vehicle was stopped at the stop sign at SR 119 when Krchmar’s vehicle and Huston’s vehicle made contact. Krchmar complained of neck pain and was transported via ambulance to Goshen Hospital.
Fulton County
Officers with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accident:
- 6:28 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, US Highway 31 and Monticello Road, Rochester. Drivers: John W. Nichols, 80, Rochester; and Julius M. Robinson, 36, Kalamazoo, Mich. Nichols was unconscious at the scene and Samaritan helicopter was called in for an airlift.
