Lakeland Christian Academy Boys 3, North Miami 1
Brayden Lane continued to score big goals for LCA, notching two more Saturday in a win at North Miami.
Lane scored two within a three-minute stretch in the second half, erasing a 1-0 North Miami lead and putting the Cougars quickly in front. Alan Grossnickle assisted on the first goal in the 53rd minute, the second was unassisted in the 56th. Peter Koller then took a Lane pass and added some insurance in the 57th minute.
LCA (2-0) won the shot battle 12-4, and both Koller and David Plastow combined to make three saves in net.
Cain Clingaman scored the lone Warrior goal in the 18th minute.
“We started slow this evening, but after they scored we controlled play,” stated LCA head coach Dan Miller. “We switched formations at half time and the guys really responded well in the second half. Credit the leadership of Brayden Lane in attack and Landen Bremer in defense. It was also nice to get Peter Koller out of goal and on to the score sheet. Overall, this is a game we can grow from.”
Lakeland Christian Academy Girls 3, Elkhart Christian Academy 1
Joy Hanes found the net twice to boost LCA (2-0) to a win in Elkhart.
Hanes scored the first half’s only goal on an unassisted try from the corner.
Liza Schmitt broke a 1-1 tie with a breakaway goal on an assist from Keely Bauer. Hanes would score her second free kick goal late in the second half on a set piece outside the 18 in the 68th minute.
“It was a team effort today,” began LCA head coach Nat Raber. “Our defense again kept rising to the challenge and kept majority of the shots from distance. Without a lot of subs, our team hung in there well. It is always good to score off some set pieces and I am happy with the improvement the team showed from the first game of the season.”
