WARSAW — Danny Boggs, of Claypool, was honored as Veteran of the Month by Kosciusko County Commissioners at their meeting Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Boggs was born Jan. 4, 1949, in Warsaw, to Fred and Lorena Boggs.
He grew up in North Webster and graduated from North Webster High School in 1967.
Boggs was drafted into the Army at age 19, during the Vietnam War. He was selected to be a squad leader and was sent to combat leadership training. He was then given command of 10 men in the Company D 2nd of 7th Battalion 1st Air Calvary.
Boggs received two Army commendation medals and three bronze stars for his meritorious service in Vietnam.
Boggs married Diana Swonger and they raised two children, Denny and Danita. He and Diana later divorced but the two remain good friends. Boggs is now married to Tammy.
Like all Vietnam veterans, Boggs returned home with difficult memories of his time in the service; however, he also returned with gratitude that God kept him safe during his time in Vietnam.
Boggs’ son, Denny, is married to Melissa Boggs, who works at the county clerk’s office. Boggs’ daughter, Danita, is married to Mike Kern. Boggs has two grandchildren, Torry and Nash, and one great-grandchild, Ijla.
After Boggs returned home from Vietnam, he began working at Zimmer in the maintenance department. He continued working there for 39 years, until his retirement in 2007.
He was presented with a plaque by the Kosciusko County commissioners.
