Trojans Sweep Singles At HNACs

KNOX – Triton rolled to straight set wins at all three singles positions Thursday to cap titles at the Hoosier North Athletic Conference Boys Tennis Championships.
The HNACs, which featured four member teams from Triton, Knox, North Judson and LaVille, were held at Knox High School both Wednesday for the semis and Thursday for the finals.
Headlining the day for Triton were its singles players, which all won both of their matches to claim titles.
John Gardner didn’t lose a game in either of his contests, shutting out North Judson’s Wyatt Stowe in the final to lead the one singles bracket.
Conner Large lost just three games to best Judson’s AJ Bau at No. 2 singles and Cole McKinney finished off Judson’s Kaden Grinder one and love in the No. 3 singles circuit.
Judson picked up wins in both doubles tourneys. At No. 1, Kyle Burkett and Andrew Attinger took care of Triton’s Riley Linville and Chandler Westafer one and two. At No. 2, Gavin Legac and Eric Materna won the longest match of the day, taking down Knox’s Bryan Branham and Shadow Craft 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
Knox reached the final by defeating Triton’s Chase King and Damon Kuntz in the semi-final Wednesday by a 6-2, 7-5 score.
Triton will next compete at the Bremen Sectional next week.
