Trinity School Boys 4, Lakeland Christian Academy 0
When you don’t have a football team to take the attention of the student body on a Friday night, you play a soccer game instead. The Lakeland Christian Academy boys took a road trip to South Bend to take on the Trinity School Titans in the regular season finale for both teams. In fact, it was the final contest for all area high school squads as the state tournaments for both boys and girls begins on Monday.
The finale didn’t turn out as planned for the Cougars as they dropped the match 4-0. The Titans’ Henry Lee scored the first goal of his eventual hat trick in the 15th minute, which would prove to be the only score of the first half.
Lee connected twice within the first 12 minutes of the second stanza, including a penalty kick in the 45th minute. Trinity added its fourth goal in the 56th minute off the foot of Michael Loughran.
LCA keeper Peter Koller was busy, stopping 20 of the 24 shots on goal.
““We didn’t play good enough to win,” said Cougar head coach Dan Miller. “Trinity is a good team, but we struggled to connect passes and our energy was lacking. We will have to play better to give ourselves a chance in the sectional vs. Fort Wayne Blackhawk. Nate Reimink was a standout in defense, and Peter Koller made some great saves in goal.”
LCA completes its regular season with a 6-7-3 overall mark. They will travel to Blackhawk to take on the Braves in the first round of sectionals at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.
