Wawasee Captures Unified Title
Staff Report
WARSAW – For the first time in its history, Wawasee Unified Flag Football has claimed a sectional championship.
The Warriors were able to run past Goshen, 34-14, in the semi-finals at Fisher Field, then after Tippecanoe Valley put away the host Tigers in the other semi-final, the Warriors and Vikings were on to the final.
Leading 20-12 at halftime, Wawasee needed to rally late to overtake the Vikings for the title. Konner Potts caught a game-winning touchdown pass from Josh Metcalf with 7.2 seconds left on the clock. Wawasee then kept Valley out of the end zone the final seven seconds to capture its first unified title with a 26-24 victory.
Wawasee (6-1) will advance to the regional round where it will take on Fort Wayne Carroll next Saturday. Date and time will be announced by the state in the near future.
