Rochester Schools Considers Halting In-Person Classes
Press Release
ROCHESTER — Due to increasing positive COVID cases in Fulton County, coupled with those who need to quarantine to safeguard others, Rochester Schools is now considered in a ‘yellow’ zone.
Jana Vance, Superintendent, Rochester Community School Corporation, issued an update.
“We are finding that more of our faculty and staff are having to miss work due to COVID and that is hindering our ability to educate students while ensuring everyone’s safety. On Oct. 20, over 13% of our adult staff was absent,” Vance said.
She warned that in-person learning may have to be discontinued for a period of time.
“If this happens, we will be engaging students virtually on the same schedule we started the 2020-21 school year. Principals will be sharing that information directly with you,” she said.
“Our goal, should we have to close, would be to try and provide a 48-hour notice of the impending closing thus allowing families to make necessary arrangements for their students. Again, we are not announcing a closing, but are working to communicate with parents that there is a strong possibility we will need to close.”
