ISCA Drops All-District Soccer Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Several area players were heralded among the All-District selections by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association. A pair of local coaches also made the grade, as well.
Districts 1 and 2 contained the area players honored, primarily District 1.
All-District First Team for District 1 girls included four from South Bend St. Joe in Hannah O’Connell, Georgia Place, Natalie Moore and Sarah Hiestand, Concord’s Kendal Swartout and Jada Swanson, Penn’s Ellie Hague and Hannah Roberson, Marian’s Mia Veldman and Grace Weaver, Northridge’s Madison Weinert, South Bend Adams’ Anna Borkowski and Culver Academy’s Sam Hazen.
Second Team for District 1 included Bethany Christian’s Rilynn Kaufmann, Culver Academy’s Sophia Rotiroti, Elkhart’s Sam Tully, Goshen’s Maddie Swallow, Marian’s Olivia White, Penn’s Mandy Baker, Plymouth’s Lindsay James, St. Joe’s Ella Scott, and Adams’ Alayna Wilson.
Coaches of the Year in District 1 were St. Joe’s Phil DePauw for the private schools, NorthWood’s Tom Shields for the small schools, and curiously, DeKalb’s Logan Cochran for the large schools. DeKalb and NorthWood are both in the same sectional, and played each other in the Wawasee Sectional championship game. DePauw was named the overall District 1 Coach of the Year.
In District 2, Warsaw had two players named in Corissa Koontz as First Team and Audrey Grimm as Second Team.
All-District First Team for District 1 boys included NorthWood’s Andre De Freitas, Elkhart’s Bryan Guerrero, Andrew Argueta and Naicem Bean, West Noble’s Henry Torres, Goshen’s Ricardo Garcia, Argos’ Teddy Redinger, Northridge’s Cam Chappell, St. Joe’s Kyle Tupper and Kyle Smith, Penn’s David Ross and John Glenn’s Sam Thomas.
Second Team for District 1 included NorthWood’s Sebastian Guillen, Northridge’s Carter Stoltzfus, Argos’ Michael Richard, Bremen’s Alex Alvarado, Marian’s Jaxson Hundt and Penn’s Charles Furry.
Coaches of the Year in District 1 were St. Joe’s Alberto Veteramo for the private schools, NorthWood’s Brad Duerksen for the small schools, and Chesterton’s Lucas Sabedra for the large schools, and was also chosen as the overall District 1 Coach of the Year.
