WINONA LAKE — The Winona Lake Redevelopment Commission has given additional support to the idea of creating a residential tax increment financing district in partnership with Warsaw Community Schools.
At a special meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Town Hall, the commission approved a memorandum of understanding with the school district.
Taxes raised within the district will help the school corporation restore the gym floor at Jefferson Elementary School. The estimated cost for that is $78,830. Funds raised will also help Winona Lake Town Engineer Aaron Carl work on a design to help with dropping off and picking up students at the school.
Tax prices will not be raised to pay for the projects, but revenues from new construction will help cover their cost.
Warsaw Community Schools is expected to vote on the TIF district at its public work session on Nov. 10. The Town Council is expected to vote on the issue at its next meeting on Nov. 17.
