Warsaw Man Arrested After Threatening Woman With Knife
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested after allegedly threatening a woman with a knife.
Jared Garrett, 19, 2441 W. CR 250S 161, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery while armed with a deadly weapon and intimidation with a deadly weapon, both level 5 felonies; criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On Nov. 4, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a report of domestic battery at a residence. Upon arrival, the officer learned the altercation was occurring in a motor vehicle.
According to court documents, the officer spoke with a woman at the residence who said she received a message from a woman who was in a vehicle with Garrett; the woman who sent the message said she was fighting with Garrett when he pulled a knife on her.
The victim arrived at the residence and told the officer she drove Garrett to work but that he did not get out of the vehicle once at his place of employment. Upon being told he would not be welcome at the woman’s residence if he didn’t work, Garrett allegedly screamed at the woman to take him to his father’s home. The woman said she began to take Garrett to his father’s residence; while she was driving, Garrett hit the woman on the right side of her face with a closed fist, causing her to hit her head on the vehicle’s interior structure.
Garrett then placed a knife against the woman’s throat. Upon arriving at Garrett’s father’s residence, Garrett told the woman, “If I ever see or catch you again, I will kill you.” The woman had a visible lateral scratch on the left side of her neck that was consistent with a knife scratch.
The officer then spoke with Garrett about the incident. Garrett said he asked the woman to let him out of the vehicle but she did not. He said the woman was on the phone when he hit her in the face with an open hand to knock the phone out of her hand. Garrett admitted that he attempted to put the woman in a choke hold while holding a knife. However, he denied putting the knife to the woman’s neck.
Garrett was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Nov. 5, with an $11,000 surety and cash bond.
