Child Dies In Early Morning Crash

WAKARUSA — A 4-year-old died from injuries in a two-vehicle crash early this morning, Friday, Nov. 13, at SR 119 and CR 40, east of Wakarusa. The accident occurred at 7:16 a.m.
Reece Doering, 4, was a passenger in a 2013 Jeep Cherokee driven by his mother, Sierra Doering, 26, Nappanee. Sierra Doering was flown by Samaritan helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital for back injuries. A second passenger, Graham Doering, 23 months, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with no injuries reported, but for further examination.
Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office reports Sierra Doering was eastbound on CR 40 when she entered the intersection of SR 119 into the path of a 2007 Kenworth semi tractor/trailer, driven by Richard Miller, 60, New Paris. A right-angle crash occurred with the front of Miller’s semitractor hitting the driver’s side of Doering’s Jeep.
Miller reported no injuries.
Elkhart County Sheriff’s crash investigation team was called to the scene and is currently investigating further.
