James Folk

James Lewis Folk, 89, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, in Largo, Fla. He was born Aug. 15, 1931, in Huntington, to Frank Jorah Tracy Folk and Poneda (Schoeff) Folk. He lived in Largo, Fla. since 2018 and resided in Kosciusko County, Warsaw, since 1945.

On Dec. 19, 1954, he married Muriel “Joan” Overmyer in North Webster. He graduated from North Webster High School in 1949, and he attended Manchester College from 1954-1956 and earned a B.S. Degree during which time he faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a CPL(T), Hq. 1 Cav. Div. Intelligence from Sept. 1952-June 1954.

From 1956-1963 James worked at Milford Machine, McKown Auto, and Creighton Brothers in their accounting departments. In 1963 he worked as a business teacher for Claypool High School. In 1966, the schools began consolidating and he began teaching Business for Warsaw Community Schools where he was also the business department chair from which he retired in 1998. He was also the National, State, Regional Office Education Association Advisor. In 1968 he earned his M.A. of Science in Education from Indiana University. In addition, he was a member of the Kosciusko County Retired Teachers Association.

From 1958-2017 he was an active member of North Winona Church of the Brethren during which time he held several positions, including the Deacon Board Chair for 25 years, of which he was life member, also he was the Administrator for Child Care Ministry from 1998-2015. He was a Warsaw School Board member from 2001-2004.

He is survived by daughters Cathy Folk, Warsaw; Anita (Dan) George, Largo, Fla.; a grandson Joshua (Amber) Folk of Ft. Wayne and great-grandchildren Jorah and Ellison Folk, Fort Wayne and a daughter-in-law Eliza Folk of Denver, Colo. His wife, Joan and son Greg both passed away Nov. 14, 2020.

Due to current COVID-19 recommendations, masks are required.  The public is kindly requested to provide their own. Social distancing is strongly encouraged. No food permitted at this time.

Services will be held in North Winona Church of the Brethren, 475 E. 100 N., Warsaw, IN 46582, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Private Interment will be held. Calling hours are from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, in the church. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements.
